If you are looking for a quick project to work on while sitting in front of the TV or sitting in a waiting room, this washcloth will fit the bill. They are a quick knit and don’t require your undivided attention.
I recommend using a 100% cotton yarn for these washcloths. Cotton is far more absorbent than a polyester, so is a good material for a washcloth.
The finished washcloth will measure 11 inches by 11 inches. Adjust your cast on if you want something smaller or bigger. I find them the perfect size.
1 skein worsted weight cotton yarn (enough to make 2 dishcloths)
Size US 6 straight needles or size to fit the gauge of 16 stitches and 24 rows = 4″
How to knit the washcloths:
Cast on 46 stitches
1st row: K1, *P2,K2* Repeat from * to * until last stitch. K last stitch
2nd row: P1, *K2P2* Repeat from * to * until last stitch. P last stitch
3rd row: K1, *K2P2* Repeat from * to * until last stitch. K last stitch
4th row: P1, *P2,K2* Repeat from * to * until last stitch. P last stitch
Repeat these 4 rows until your piece measures 11 inches. Bind off and weave in ends.
These are great for both kitchen and bathroom. They also make excellent Mother’s Day, housewarming and hostess gifts.
