Materials needed: Worsted weight yarn in color of your choice, US size 4 knitting needles, yarn needle for weaving in ends, button for decoration, thread or fishing line to sew on button. I use fishing line so it isn’t noticed.
Large Flower – 8 1/2″ across:
Cast on 12 stitches
1) Slip 1 knitwise, K 11
2) Slip 1 purlwise, P 11
3) Slip 1 knitwise, kfb in every stitch till 1 stitch remains, K 1 = 22 stitches
4-18) Beginning with P row, Stockinette stitch 15 rows
19) (K2tog) x 2, K to last four stitches, (K2tog) x 2 = 18 stitches
Repeat rows 19 and 20 three more times = 6 stitches
27) (K2tog) x 3 = 3 stitches
29) K3tog = 1 stitch
Cut yarn and pull through to fasten off
Repeat four more times for a total of five flower petals.
Small Flower – 7″ across:
Cast on 8 stitches
3) K1, kfb in every stitch till 1 stitch remains, K1 = 14 stitches
5-14) Beginning with a K row, Stockinet stitch 10 rows
15) (K2tog) x 2, K to last 4 stitches, (K2tog) x 2 = 10 stitches
17) K2tog, K to last two stitches, K2tog = 8
Repeat rows 17 and 18 twice more = 4 stitches
23) K2tog = 2 stitches
25) K2tog = 1 stitch
Cut yarn and pull trough to fasten off.
Repeat four more times for a total of five flower petals,
For Both flower sizes:
Weave in both cast on and fasten off ends on all petals. Cut a piece of yarn (same color as petals) long enough to run through the cast on edge of each petal as follows:
Pull to gather all five petals and position them as you’d like them.
Pull tightly and tie yarn ends together to secure the petals.
Sew button of your choice to center for decoration.
