We are all crushed over the heartbreaking brush fires and devastating loss of and harm to the wildlife in Australia. For a while now, I’ve been struggling to come up with a way to help. Agencies that have requested help from crafters have been inundated with items – the crafting community ALWAYS steps up to the plate in times of need. While this outpouring of support from the craft community is appreciated, these agencies are having to dedicate many staff and volunteer hours to sorting through the items and sadly, many can’t be used at all.
Today I finally came up with a way to help! While scrolling through the posts of my Facebook knitting groups, I cam across a post from Vicky Gordon from Knitting by Post. If you are unfamiliar with Knitting by Post, they are a UK based stuffed toy knitting pattern business with the cutest stuff toy patterns. If you follow me on social media, you’ve seen a few of their patterns.
For the foreseeable future, Knitting by Post is giving 100% of the pattern price for this koala knitting pattern to WIRES (Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Services). By purchasing this pattern, you will be contributing to a worthy cause. You can buy the pattern here
I was so inspired by this that I’ve purchased the pattern and decided to make and sell these koalas and donate everything but my materials and shipping costs, also for the foreseeable future. I’m using a thicker yarn and larger needles than the pattern calls for so my version of these koalas will be about 10″ (25 cm) tall. You may substitute another color for the blue – pink, green, yellow, red, purple, etc., it’s up to you.
I am asking $35.00 (USD) for each koala and will donate $24.00 from the sale of each to WIRES. I’m allowing myself $5.00 to cover materials and $6.00 for approximate shipping. If you are interested in purchasing a koala, please contact me either by commenting here or via email at Gaylaknits@gmail.com I will accept payment through PayPal by using the same email address.
I expect to have many koala requests so please be patient, as it may take a couple of weeks to fill your order. I will fill the orders in the order they were received and inform you as to when I think yours will be ready.
